Undertaking a SudaWeld
Undertaking a Sudaweld
- Insert the handle clamp into the holes located on the mould, ensure that the it is secure, using the thumb screws to tighten if necessary. Over-tightening may damage the graphite mould so care is required.
- Insert conductors to be exothermically connected into the appropriate spaces at the base of the mould.
- Open the powder packet and remove a disc. Insert the disc into the disc-seat of the crucible, which should prevent powder descending into the weld chamber prior to ignition.
- Pour about the weld metal powder into the crucible. The starting powder (which is the finer ground powder located at the base of the powder cartridge) should be distributed near the ignition point of the mould, with a small amount situated on top of the weld metal powder within the crucible.
- Close the mould lid.
- If all previous points have been completed satisfactorily use the flint gun to commence the Sudaweld process by pulling the trigger in close proximity to the ignition point of the mould.
- Allow the mould to cool for at least 30 seconds before opening to ensure the copper exothermic connection has solidified.
- The Sudaweld is complete; this exothermic connection will prove durable and effective throughout the lifetime of the system.
